Week 32/76 Central Heating, Seedless Grapes, And Castañas

Image
Hello lovely people! I survived 4 hours on a bus to get to my new area of Yungay!  My new companion, Hermana Condori, is from Peru and she is so sweet! Yungay is a branch, there are very few members, the church is a house, and the baptismal font is a swimming pool, but it's super cute!   We tried stuffed tomatoes this week, 10/10!  Our house came with a free barbell and weights, and after it got fumigated on saturday, a fumigation spray container thing! You can add seedless grapes and central heating to my list of things I miss and took for granted in the United states. We have a wood burning stove in our house but don't have the wood or the permission to light it. A small space heater is our only source of heat in the cold mornings and nights because, although it gets freezing cold here, central heating does not exist. I don't know if anyone knows what a castaña is, I didn't until this past week. But it tastes kind of like a potato and the s...

Week 31/76 Einsteins An Artist!

Image
This week was kind of all over the place.  We haven't had many people progressing so we have just talked to everyone and tried to find new people.  We did have a lesson with an artist who looked like Einstein brought back to life.  A guy from another ward gave un two bags of food just because he knows we work all day and wanted to give us some goodies from the south of Chile! Thanks Jaime!  We enjoyed our last week as a trio, and just took a bunch of photos. We did see lots of little miracles and I feel like this week I learned so much, and gained so much motivation to just be the best missionary I can be!  We received transfer news Saturday night, I am leaving the city and heading to a small town called Yungay (June-guy). I'm gonna miss my trio and the city life, but I'm excited to see what miracles are in store for me in Yungay!  In 2 days, the 19th, I will hit 7 months as a missionary! I can't believe how quickly it's all going by and how much I kee...

Week 30/76 Vale La Pena

Image
Hey guys! Not much happened this week. Its starting to get cold and we are pulling out the sweaters.  I found 2 dollars and a marble on the side of a hill, hiking to visit someones house. And we got the best teriaki bowl things for lunch one day!  Our friend Damian was baptized yesterday and I don't think I've ever seen anyone happier! I love the happiness that the gospel brings and it is amazing to watch someone change their life and have the light of christ in their life! We did have to emtpy cold, dirty, 2 week old water out of the font with buckets, but vale la pena! (Worth it).  Our ward is really small here, but there are 7 missionaries because I'm in a trio and there are 4 oficinistas right now.  We had empanadas for Easter lunch and it was a totally different vibe, for my first Easter away from home it really just felt like another day. What was really whack was that for good friday the streets were empty!  One member recently returned from the US and sh...

Week 29/76 Trio Vibes And Conference Time!

How is everyone? What did you like from conference?  I'm in a trio now with hermanas Duffy and Danko in Universitario, which is the big city of Concepción.  We had a couple intercambios this week so we spent a day with Hermana Nuñez and then another day I was in Pedro de Valdivia (the area with the temple) with Hermana Anderton and Aguilar. It was a little crazy but an adventure to be running around.  We had a super busy weekend. It started with zone council saturday morning and then rushing home to watch the sessions of general conference, which we were able to watch in english from our beds!!  General conference was the best!! I took a mountain of notes and it was a great weekend! My first conference in the mission and it was a good one! We watched the last sunday session in the church and were able to see some amigos!  This week we also helped move a wood pile, ate some good food, and are trying to pull together a baptism!  I love you all!! Have a great ...
