Week 62/76 Kidnapper Van Carpool

Image
Hey, how was your weekend? What did you do for Thanksgiving?  I'm now here in Chillancito, and all I can say is that it's cold.  Ok I guess I can say more, but it's almost summer time, why do I still have to have a daily "bring a jacket" debate?  It's actually a very nice sector, it is in the middle of 2 other sectors I have served in (collao and universitario) so it's like I've just come full circle of where I was last year. For example, we saw some members from collao in Lider and the relief society president, who had found out she was pregnant when I was in collao, had a whole 5 month old child in her hands!  We have three friends with a baptism date, but only one that is actively preparing for her baptism, so we will see what happens this week. Ana - quit smoking by herself to be able to be baptized, gave us lunch my first day here, came to church with her boyfriend (an inactive member from another ward), and is super listo to be baptized the 8th o...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week. What is one area you can focus on this coming week to more closely follow the principles in Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ? Quiero conocer los miembros y formar buenas relaciones con ellos ahora, quiero ser in ayuda para el barrio y la zona y buscar como puedo aplicar mis talentos para adelantar lo obra! Who did you participate in exchanges with? How did the exchange go? Is there anything happening at home or with your family that...

Week 61/76 Las Chicas De Dios

Do you prefer your hotdogs in a bun, a bowl of mashed peas, or as a layer in your pasta lasagna? Asking for a friend.  So much has happened this week where do I start?  I bought better yerba for my mate! I know some of you foreigners are probably asking "what is mate?" It's pronounced (maw-tay). Basically you take some herbs (that smell questionably similiar to what I used to feed my pet rabbit) then you put it in a special cup, shake it up, add sugar if you want, add some hot water, then sip it through a special filtered straw. It's a Chilean classic, and they take it very seriously.  We casually mentioned the ward family home evening on Wednesday and our friend Cinthia just showed up, then came to a relief society activity, and came to church on Sunday, we love a self sufficient single mom.  One day while we were sitting on a bench in the shade to avoid heatstroke, our friend Linda walked by to pick up her kids from school, she bought us Chilean fruit otter pops! W...

Week 60/76 Cambios??

Not much happened this week, but here's the highlights.   - I drank mate on Tuesday, which isn't a very big deal, but the yerba that is in our house isn't very good, so it kinda threw my whole day off.    - I tried mate again on Wednesday it tasted better and my day was better   - our ward home evening was full of half magic half riddle tricks, including but not limited too, matando moscas (killing flies) and a "Japanese writing" name guessing game.   - on Thursday we had interviews with President and the elders accidently bought bus tickets for the wrong day and almost got left at the terminal.    - on Thursday we also had some fun changes happen in our district. There are two elders in our zone finishing their missions tomorrow, so one Elder had to move areas and another elder was in a trio for 4 days and now there are only 2 companionships in our ward and not 3. Our district leader changed and the other 5 members of my district all have less then 6 ...

Week 59/76 Fams And Dams!!

Happy Halloween! We didn't do anything for halloween, but we did get a handful of candy from a fire fighter as we walked by the fire station, and for some reason it was more wholesome to see little Chileans running around in costumes, also it's more effective in Chile, because you can just shout "ahlo" and get all the houses on the street, instead of knocking on each door.  On Wednesday we played Jeopardy in the ward family home evening. There was only like 10 people there but we had a lot of fun! It was also the Día de todos los Santos, and the whole road to the cemetery was full of little shops and venders. We got cotton candy, chocolate covered strawberries, and a member gifted us quartz necklaces from her shop! We also contacted lots of people!  In alma 5:14 we read "And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hear...

Weekly Reports

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week. What is one area you can focus on this coming week to more closely follow the principles in Missionary S...
