Week 58/76 Dios Sabe Escoger Sus Ovejas

Image
Did anyone else have a crazy week, or was it just me?  We had zone council, and set good goals as a zone, and it was very powerful and spiritual. Then taught English class, and a recent converts dog joined us.  Our muffins were a huge hit at ward the family home evening.  We had intercambios and I was with hna. Martin in Parral. We had started the day with a blitz in Linares 1, but it was a random holiday and there was nobody in the street. The intercambio was good, we met the cutest little girl. When her mom asked her if she was sure she wanted to go to church, because it might get boring, she said "I'm willing to God" which maybe makes more sense in spanish, but coming from a 5 year old, it was adorable! Then we had 2 random rainy days on Saturday and Sunday, and it was the worst timing.  So, on Thursday we had explained tithing, the word of wisdom, and the law of chastity to our friend Ricardo, and he was fine with everything up until tithing. We tried to explain ...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week.

Week 57/76 Look Mom He Made It, A Bittersweet Baptism

This week I took my first colectivo. Picture a taxi, but it works like a bus, with a route, and you're just there with the two other strangers and the driver, is that a thing in the states? like a group uber? but cheaper.  We had zone conference and had to take a bus to chillan, that's new. Unfortunately I didn't bring my headphones along do we'll never know if they were playing Wakanda Forever with a spanish voiceover or not, but from the little I saw I think it'll be a good watch when I get home.  I spent an embarrassing amount of time running around the church gym to find a hidden chocolate bar, like one of the kids from Charlie and the chocolate factory. I didn't find one, but I was really close so they gave me a participation candy bar.  President used the activity as an analogy for our work in the field. And I was a perfect example. At one point I thought to check in one of the many little trash cans around the room, but there was only trash inside. Then m...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week.

Week 56/76 New Beginnings, Same Me

Linares 2, with hermana Hafer. It's been a crazy weekend.  Linares is a cute branch (that's becoming a ward next week!) It's almost the very end on the mission limits and we live where the city meets the country. The view of the mountains is very pretty and reminds me of Utah!  I've been trying to get to know everyone and it's a little overwhelming. Although I'm training hermana Hafer, she knows the area and the people and it feels a little like she's training me.  We have 3 friends progressing más o menos. Ricardo - guy in the street who talked to the missionaries in a park one day. He said he'd come to church, but didn't show up. Is usually found on the drug corner, but says he's not taking drugs. Has an old phone so we can only get in contact by call or visit said drug corner. Likes to talk about Christ, but never infront of his friends on the drug corner. He has a baptism date for the 28th, but we can't have baptisms that day because of S...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week. What is one area you can focus on this coming week to more closely follow the principles in Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ? Who did you participate in exchanges ...

Week 55/76 Semáforo Means Stoplight Not Fruitstand

Hey everyone, its been a minute, how are you guys? Surprise Thursday email for cambios!!  Its been a crazy week and a half. We met Graciela and Laura, a mom and daughter who accepted a baptism date for this month! Graciela was baptized in the catholic church, but never confirmed, she said she is very excited to finally complete this spiritual step, and feel whole after all these years! Then, when a sister in the branch shared her testimony that Christ lives, Graciela said that she had cried when she was younger because she had been taught that Christ had died, and to know that her Savior lives was a huge answer to her prayers! They've been a little MIA this week, but we're not giving up hope.  We also met Hermes, the neighborhood friend of the second counselor and cousin of the relief society president. He said he would come to church, then somehow got lost in camino, but next week we will walk together. We did some more window washing, this time for our friend Carmen, and eve...

Week 54/76 Pensar De Una Manera Celestial

Intercambios! Me and Hermana Sirman against chillán, specifically a few old ladies, the stake president, 2 new friends who started the day without a baptism date, but now are preparing to make their first covenant with the Lord, a small power outage and a confusion with the keys to the church, only to have them change the interviews with president to a different stake center on the other side of Chillan.  The next day was Hermana Alcons birthday, so of course we blew up balloons and had a little celebration and one of the Hermanas gave us cake!  The moment we've all been waiting for, 6 months in the making! CONFERENCIA GENERAL!!  Que fuego! I really liked all of it.   I made the mistake of making and bringing cookies to the 6 members who came to watch conference in the church, and got told that if I didn't make and bring more cookies they wouldn't let us come to their houses.  Apparently our work here is paying off, because Chile is getting another tem...
