Week 58/76 Dios Sabe Escoger Sus Ovejas
Did anyone else have a crazy week, or was it just me?
We had zone council, and set good goals as a zone, and it was very powerful and spiritual. Then taught English class, and a recent converts dog joined us.
Our muffins were a huge hit at ward the family home evening.
We had intercambios and I was with hna. Martin in Parral. We had started the day with a blitz in Linares 1, but it was a random holiday and there was nobody in the street. The intercambio was good, we met the cutest little girl. When her mom asked her if she was sure she wanted to go to church, because it might get boring, she said "I'm willing to God" which maybe makes more sense in spanish, but coming from a 5 year old, it was adorable!
Then we had 2 random rainy days on Saturday and Sunday, and it was the worst timing.
So, on Thursday we had explained tithing, the word of wisdom, and the law of chastity to our friend Ricardo, and he was fine with everything up until tithing. We tried to explain it better, but he was just done. We left the lesson very sorrowful, but like 20 minutes later he called us and said he needed to talk to us, then 5 minutes later was outside on his bike saying "hermanas I need to repent, I'm going to play tithing, and go to church, and be baptized!"
Then I wasn't in Linares on Friday and Saturday was crazy.
There wasnt buses because of the random holiday, so we were a little stranded in Parral, then our bus passed the terminal and luckily we got off before going to far, we dont know where that bus wouldve taken us. We had to walk in the rain to get baptismal clothing from the zone leaders, then had to meet with Ricardo. He was nervous to have his baptism interview and didn't want to do it, then he was like "Ok lets do it" he passed his interview and said he'd come to church the next day.
Sunday just happened to be the special stake conference because District Linares was being turned into a stake! There were so many people! Apparently our friends are all super nervous with big crowds, and in our struggle to help Ricardo get inside and not feel stressed, our friend Nicolas stuck out and went home.
Then Ricardo decided he was going to leave 5 minutes before it started. We walked him to the door and returned to our seats. Then he came back, and he stayed for the whole conference.
He said he liked it, but didn't feel ready to be baptized the same day, we invited him to come see a baptism in our WARD anyway. He almost slept through it, but made it just in time to see Hugo get baptized. Then he realized how simple it was and said he was going to get baptized, he wanted it to be next Sunday but with a little bit of prayer, faith, and a lot of help from the elders, we pulled it off.
They had already drained the font, so they had to fill it up again. Luckily there was a big hose in the church. Maybe the water was cold, but he was baptized, the second baptism in the Linares Stake, and the Valentin Letelier ward! It was crazy, but I know God's hand made it happen.
"God knows how to choose his sheep" a phrase an hermana said leaving a lesson with Ricardo one day this week. It really stuck with me.
If it was up to us, we might've chosen Carolina, Nicolas, or Araceli, to be baptized because they seem more prepared. But God chose Ricardo, put him in our path, softened and changed his heart, and prepared the way so he could get baptized yesterday.
I have never felt so back and forth, so tired, but so energized, so proud but so humbled. I'm so grateful to be a missionary, and to be able to see God working miracles in my life and the lives of others!
On Saturday after a super long and rainy day, we were visiting an hermana, Rosario, and she was telling us that she had got her patriarchal blessing in April, and then it took forever to get sent to her, and they sent it to her old address so she'd have to go pick it up. We showed her how to download it on her phone, and after a few technical difficulties, I handed her the phone with the pdf open. She literally jumped for joy! Ran down the hall to her room, came back to say goodbye and said she was going to read it right now!
It fills my heart with so much joy to see how even just opening a pdf, opening the gates of possibility, and following the spirit, can affect and change people's lives.
Let me know what crazy things happened in your life this week!
