Week 53/76 Spring Has Sprung

Image
I started the book of mormon from the beginning, its good stuff! Spring is here, and I've started carrying my sunscreen in my backpack again! We enjoyed some golden hour sun, when our English class flopped again. They say the rain hasn't stopped yet, but all of yungay came outside yesterday to enjoy the sun.  We had a really good zone council, and returned home very motivated! But when we presented the plan to our friend Hernan, he wanted nothing to do with it or baptism. Que triste :( We ran all over yungay this week, we managed to find a couple who are pretty interested. Victor and Yerrsina. She's from Bolivia, he's talked with missionaries before, she is Christian, and they are married!  We were leaving a little street and no one had answered the door, we crossed paths with a guy and me and my companion both stopped starred at the other and then ran back to give him a card, we introduced ourselves and when Hna. Alcon said she was from Bolivia, he was like "oh my...

Week 52/76 It's A Bird, It's A Kite, It's The 18th Of September!

Image
A year ago, I had no idea that the 18th of September was so significant. Today, I've decided I'll be celebrating it, Chilean style, for the rest of my life!  I fully embraced the Chilean culture this week, and put more effort into my outfits for the last 3 days, then I ever have for the 4 of July. Luckily I had enough red, white, and blue to pull together some good looks. I also decided that it was worth the investment to buy red, white, and blue nail polish. An alternate title to this email being, it's America, it's Texas, it's Chile!  In zone conference we played a vicious game of musical chairs, had an 'ahlo' contest, "sang" the Chile national anthem, I ate half of an avocado in 10 seconds in the game of completo incompleto, I lost a handsfree apple eating contest to AP Wight, and our zone lost at tug of war. It was loud, it was intense, the games were probably not certified Chilean, but it was so fun! Next year I'll be able to dance the Cue...

What is one area you can focus on this coming week to more closely follow the principles in Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ? Estoy intentando a vencer el miedo, hna alcon es una buena ejemplo para solo declarar nuestro propósito e invitar a todos! Quiero ser más como ella y recordar que estoy aquí por Dios y no para hacer amigos en Chile Who did you participate in exchanges with? How ...

Week 51/76 When In Chile...

Image
Don't try the hot chocolate.  The weather has been very bipolar, with heavy rain and wind, but a random sunny day every 2 days. Today is very sunny which would be very nice but we can't leave because of possible protests. We started the week with 1.75 working umbrellas, and now we only have .8 of a working umbrella. We tried to start English classes here in Yungay, and no one showed up. Rude. We had a missionary activity in the stake center and shared about the Book of Mormon. Then afterwards we waited for an hour for some Papa Johns pizza before heading back to Yungay. What better way to celebrate Russel M Nelson's birthday, then with the future generation of missionaries!  Almost all of our friends right now: I know I should be baptized Us: Oh perfect, how about... Them: Don't pressure me! My moment will arrive.  @Carmen, Yessica, Javier, Cecilia, and Hernan But in spite of the rain and the rejection, we keep trying every day, we keep praying and we keep inviting all ...

Week 50/76 Luke 10:25-37

A few things I learned this week  - hazelnuts grow on trees (and don't look anything like they do on the Nutella jar, at least in Chile)  - how to make a paper crane   - Chile celebrates it's birthday the same way my dad does, all month long  - stickers are an easy way to make kids (and adults) a little happier  -a little whitebaord goes a long way Viva Chile and viva Yungay, because Hermana Pratt isn't going anywhere.  I haven't packed a suitcases in 20 weeks, we'll see if I remember how in 5 more!  Winter is coming to an end, but the rain sigue cayendo! We headed to chillan on Wednesday to say goodbye to everyone in our district, and we experienced an earthquake together, if that's not district bonding u don't know what is. We had 3 friends come to church yesterday, 3!!! That hasn't happened in months!  Yessica and her son, Javid, came and stayed for primary!  And Hernan is now more than ready to be baptized! We got to be good samarita...
