Week 49/76 Bolivian Food. Who Knew?

Image
Cinnamon rolls and ahì de lentejas. Also has anyone else tried cheetos dipped in jam? Or is that just a Chile thing?  On Thursday we got a little bit rained on, but got free berlins from the bakery, we saw a rainbow, and the sunset was straight out of stranger things.  On Friday we had zone conference. They didn't ask me to lead the music, but that would've been too obvious, they'll probably wait a few conferences and then ask me when I'm least expecting it!  I knew we would be getting the new Preach My Gospels, but I was a little shocked when they handed me one in English, because "there wasn't enough Spanish ones for the latinos". I was even more surprised, later on, when President said all the English speakers would recieve a second PMG, in spanish, after lunch. We left zone conference with high spirits, fulls stomachs, and a little extra weight in my backpack!  The sun decided to come out at the end of the week so we got ice cream and watched a marchin...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week.

Week 48/76 Rainstorms, Scorpions, And Smoke Alarms, Oh My

Image
In honor of back to school season we played a get to know game in our zone council, turns out we have missionaries from 7 different countries in our zone!  I have a new fear of walking around in the dark after we spotted scorpions on our way to a lesson one night!  I didn't realize that part of training a new missionary would include microwave training. In her defense, she's never had a microwave before and the microwave we have is a little tricky.  The good news is that our smoke detector works. She accidently put her bread in the microwave for 7 minutes! We opened all the windows and got some fresh air, it was actually pouring rain, but it was fresh nonetheless! The rain didn't stop. Remember that waterfall I visited a couple weeks ago, well they are worried it's going to flood Yungay, but so far so good.  We played window washers this week for a service project, and for some reason window washing makes me think of Wallace and Gromet. Just a fun fact.  We got ...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week. What is one area you can focus on this coming week to more closely follow the principles in Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ? Who did you participate in exchanges with? How did the exchange go? Is there anything happening at home or with your family that you would like to share? (Optional) Is there anything else you would like to share? (O...

Week 47/76 Can You Lead Music?

Image
We had interviews with President in the afternoon on Wednesday, so we had lunch in yungay and then spent the afternoon in Chillan, we got rained on heading home, but it was worth it. One of the APs found out I can lead music and said I'd be leading in the next zone conference, I'll let you know how that goes.  We have been trying to find new people to teach all week, with little luck but lots of animo!  We had a relief society activity, we made and ate picarones and calzones rotos, maybe don't look that up in Google translate.  Our friend Carmen even showed up to the activity! She still doesn't want to commit to a baptism date, but poco a poco she's opening up to the spirit.  Highlights of the week: A few months ago I got a message from a couple who were investigating the church, they live in a different area, but I helped answer their questions and they got in contact with the elders in their area. This week those elders shared with the mission that the couple has ...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week. What is one area you can focus on this coming week to more closely follow the principles in Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ? Quiero mejorar en mi estudio de idioma y realmente aprender mejor Who did you participate in exchanges with? How did the exchange go? Is there anything happening at home or with your family that you would like to share? (Optional) Is there anything else you would like to share? (Optional)

Week 46/76 And Then There Was One

Image
We had intercambios on Wednesday and Hermana Martin and I spent it running around Yungay talking with everyone. We got asked if we were Jehovahs witness' once, and only almost got bit by a gang of street dogs.  We walked to the extremes of Yungay, found the river and a hidden soccer field. I tried my first Chilean KitKat (not as good as I remember them being in the US)  Carmen came to church yesterday! We called her on Saturday to invite her, and shared Matthew 11:28-30, but it seemed like she wouldn't make it.  Putting all our faith in our Hevanely Father we moved forward, and she sent us a message at 10:01, right as the meetigng was starting, voy por allá! She has felt the spirit and knows that this is the true church, keep her in your prayers so she can recieve the confirmation she needs to accept a baptism date!  We also learned that Javier has a 11 year old son, and somehow forgot to mention that for the past 3 months!  It was a good week, good food, good c...

Please share a few successes and/or challenges from your efforts to fulfill your missionary purpose this past week.
