Week 52/76 It's A Bird, It's A Kite, It's The 18th Of September!
A year ago, I had no idea that the 18th of September was so significant. Today, I've decided I'll be celebrating it, Chilean style, for the rest of my life!
I fully embraced the Chilean culture this week, and put more effort into my outfits for the last 3 days, then I ever have for the 4 of July. Luckily I had enough red, white, and blue to pull together some good looks. I also decided that it was worth the investment to buy red, white, and blue nail polish. An alternate title to this email being, it's America, it's Texas, it's Chile!
In zone conference we played a vicious game of musical chairs, had an 'ahlo' contest, "sang" the Chile national anthem, I ate half of an avocado in 10 seconds in the game of completo incompleto, I lost a handsfree apple eating contest to AP Wight, and our zone lost at tug of war. It was loud, it was intense, the games were probably not certified Chilean, but it was so fun! Next year I'll be able to dance the Cueca, and all my Chilean dreams will come true!
President told us not to play with the kites, because people illegally lace them with fiber glass and it's very frowned upon to go to the rodeo in Chile, in case anyone was wondering.
Other highlights of the week:
- Yessica said she'd pray about a baptism date!
- We heard a bird call while walking one day, looked over and it was just a kid with a bird whistle sticking his head out the second story window. ¿a Chilean Wilbur Robinson?
- I got a package from home, and Hermana Alcon got to try a variety of American delights that happen to be my favorites.
- Cecelia made it to church, ¡por fin!
- They informed us we have the sacrament talks next week, then I broke one of the church plates (correlation or causation, yo no se)
- A year ago today, I was set apart to represent Jesus Christ, serve, and gather his children in the beautiful country of Chile. My life's been forever changed in the time I've had as a missionary!
- I finished reading El libro de Mormón hoy día!!
I know with complete certainty that God knows me, and He loves me! His timing is perfect and He has called me to Preach His Gospel.
A couple of verses that stood out to me this morning:
"For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity.
And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently ... for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God." Moroni 8:18, 9:6
365 days since I put on the tag, a lifetime of being a witness of my Savior to go!
¡FELIZ 18 DE SEPTIEMBRE!
