Week 37/76 Extreme Home Makeover: Flu Shots Are Miracles In Disguise

This week was interesting. We got flu shots on Wednesday, the same day we had interviews with president. We took the bus to Chillan in the middle of the day, got our shots, and then after interviews and our district council, we took the bus home, just in time for our lunch appointment, at 5:30... but hey miracles in disguise because we were in the bus the whole time it was pouring rain in Yungay.

If anyone is wondering what it's like to be on a house makeover show, I now have first hand experience.
It started with the president's wife calling us out in front of the whole mission. We sent a photo of the bed sheet we've been using as a curtain to let her know that we needed a real curtain, and she forwarded the photo to the mission chat, and was like ¨who else has 'curtains' like these¨ Thanks hermana Hukdhs.

But after a facetime tour of our house, a trip to the store, and 3 elders sacrificing their study time to drive to Yungay, we got a complete house makeover! New curtains, tablecloth, bath mat, and like 4 new layers for our beds! They took everything out of the attic, stole our barbell, filled a huge garbage bag with garbage, and just as quickly as they arrived they left us with a new house and a fake pot of flowers from Hermana Hukdhs.

It was a good thing they came and revamped our house because we ended up inside the whole weekend. Hermana Condori got sick from the vaccine, and we didn't leave the house for three days, not even to go to church. But at least we had nice new blackout curtains so when we were sleeping at 2 pm it didn't feel like the middle of the day.

I had lots of time to do nothing, but I made soup, and french fries, and the branch brought us food. I decided I don't like sick days in the mission, but I studied and learned a lot this week, and now we are ready to end the transfer super fuerte!

We had a surprise family home evening when we showed up at a members house for a blessing for h.Condori and they were making arrow chaufa and celebrating the birthday of the only active young man in our branch. That was a party. I was asked what I've heard about Adam-Ondi-Ahman, as if it was an American legend and didn't exist or something.

None of our amigos came to church, it stings a little less when you aren't there to see them not show up, but it still sucks. We are hoping we can get at least some of them to come to Stake Conference next week, but when the stake center is an hour and a half away, it's a little more complicated.

So yeah, that was my week. Yungay is getting very cold, but we are doing our best to bundle up. We are still seeing so many miracles, and we are having the best time of our lives!

Who would've thought I'd be living in a small town in the middle of nowhere Chile, with a Peruvian, doing the work of the Lord? I certainly didn't, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!
