Week 45/76 Faith, Trust, And A Little Bit Of Revelation

Our mission president swears he didn't have access to the new Preach My Gospel any sooner than we did, but sometimes we read and it's like he wrote it. A little suspicious this whole revelation thing.

We had zone conference this week, and it was the most powerful I've been a part of in my mission so far. There was a big emphasis on faith, how we can increase our faith in Jesus Christ, and how we have this time in the mission to grow. I was called on to read a scripture passage and it was like a slap in the face, something that God has been trying to tell me for months and finally, I read it and I understood.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. (Daniel 3:16-18)

That is faith. Throw us in the fire, our God will save us, but if not, we will serve Him anyway.

I have a new perspective on missionary work and this week I have tried to have this attitude. To do all I can. If they reject our message, if they throw us in the fire, I know that God has my back. If it doesn't work out, I'm going to keep preaching anyway. I have faith that this message is true, and that God needs me to share it with everyone, without exception. So they can accept it or not, and if not, be it known unto thee that I will keep sharing.

With that same mindset we passed by the house of our friend Ismael, and I just started talking. I don't actually think it was me, I think the spirit opened my mouth and made me ask him if he wanted to be baptized. And he said yes! Unfortunately he didn't come to church on Sunday so we had to move his date, but he committed to stop drinking coffee and we have lots of faith that he will be baptized in August.

Ismael didn't answer the door Sunday morning, and all of our other friends woke up feeling sick, but we were thoroughly surprised when some inactive members, the stake presidency, and a few high councilmen strolled through the door. The capilla was full, and even though our friends couldn't make it, it was a very good Sunday.

Hermana Alcon completed her first month in the mission! She is already a natural at sharing, preaching, promising, and inviting. Everyday I'm impressed by what she knows and how she teaches, and then I remember that she doesn't know everything and I'm the trainer and have to teach the things she doesn't know. It's a fun balance of learning through trial and error.

I remember when I was in my training and I thought that there was nothing I could teach my trainer, she had a year in the mission, already knew Spanish, and seemed to know everything about missionary life. As a trainer now with first hand experience I know that I probably taught my trainer a lot. Everyday I learn something new from the hermana.
The weather here in Tropi-Conce is loco, last week it was pouring rain, this week it was hot enough to buy and enjoy ice cream. But we've made it through July which I think is the worst of the cold months, but if I'm wrong then we are going into August, which is the worst of the cold months. I'll keep you guys updated on that.

I saw so many cute cats, and far too many, not so cute, spiders this week.
