Week 66/76 A Chilean Christmas Story
Feliz Navidad!!
Tanto tiempo, how is everyone enjoying Christmas?
Thanks for taking time out of your holiday celebrations to read my email, lets get into the good stuff!!
Dato curioso- this week I spent more time out after curfew then I have for more than an year.
Zone conference
We were in charge of decorating the church for the Christmas zone conference. The final product wasn't that pretty and we were just a bunch of young adults throwing something together, but it was like 11pm and we were having a great time!
The actually conference was so good!!
Not only was it christmas, singing, games and presents, but hermana Hukdhs read from Jonathan Livingston Seagull, and President Hukdhs compared us to Baby Yoda!
I think many of us have had a conversation así,
Person 1: oh look it's Baby Yoda
Person 2 (a Star Wars fan): actually, his name is Grogu
President told us that like Baby Yoda, people make assumptions and set expectations based on how we look and present ourselves. "Oh look it's las mormonas, chiquillas, niñas, gringas etc." But we aren't just kids, foreigners, americans, mormons, or any other name they give us. "Actually those are the missionaries."
We are representatives of Jesus Christ. And we should let the people know!
Then we had a bunch of Christmas festivities...
- beer pong gift exchange, I don't know if they were playing for winners, but our zone won
- girls camp skit, but with a bunch of missionaries and it's about the birth of christ
- many many many musical numbers including an electric bagpipe solo!
Ward activity
Everyone showed up 45 minutes late (because Chileans are always late)Then they had a bunch of musical numbers including us and the elders singing the First Noel in spanish and English.
Then we got to go around like Tucanos waiters offering Fanta, Coca-Cola, and Orange or Pineapple juice. Muy bien.
Navidad
There was an earthquake at midnight on Christmas Adam. According to my companion she said 'is this an earthquake?' I said 'yeah I think so' and then we were just like ok, and went back to sleep.
We spent the afternoon yesterday delivering Christmas notes, building a puzzle on the floor, making cookies, and reading in the book of Jonah (because 5pm is too early to be reading Luke 2) then we had salmon for dinner with some members, they opened gifts at like 11pm, and brought us home.
This morning we opened presents bright and early, and then wanted to make crepes. Unfortunately we didn't have enough flour so we had to ask the elders if they had any. They took 20 minutes, but brought it up 5 floors, left it outside the door, and sent a photo confirming that our package had been delivered. If that's not good service I don't know what is.
Also Nicolas in Linares got baptized on Christmas Eve!
¡Amigos!
We don't actually have that many amigos right now.
We tried to contact a women outside of her house but she was like "I was kicked out of all the churches because I'm a witch" that's one we haven't heard before.
But we did meet an abuelo name Luis, who's...interesting, but when we went by for the second visit he said he'd like to be baptized! Vamos Luis!
We met Dara. We had planned to knock 10 doors, and we were one away from our goal. Dara was outside and the cat she was playing with convinced me to talk to her (his name is pirate and he only has one good eye) but Dara is super buena and we are going back to visit today!
Another time we were sitting on a bench and this old lady came up to us and was like "hey I've seen you guys around here a lot, why don't you give me something to read and come by my house this week!" Ok Luisa, will do!
One of the talks in church said something like, even when babies are only 1 year old, we still throw them a party and we include them. Would you throw a birthday party and not include the person whose birthday it is?
We need to include Christ in his own birthday celebration!!
2 Nefi 19:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Lucas 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
I love Christmas because I love my Savior!
Enjoying what may be my last 80° Chile summer Christmas,
